Godzilla is a currently-running comic series by IDW Publishing. The company's first interconnected Godzilla ongoing title since Godzilla: Rulers of Earth (2013-2015),[a] it is part of a new shared universe dubbed the Kai-Sei Era. Written by Tim Seeley and illustrated by Nikola Čižmešija, the series depicts a world in which a mysterious energy source known as Kai-Sei awakened Godzilla decades prior and has fundamentally altered the planet. In the present, the United States is attempting to fight back against the monsters with the creation of a team of superpowered individuals known as G-Force.[1]

The first issue was released on July 23, 2025.[2] It will be followed later in the year by two other titles set within the same continuity: Godzilla: Escape the Deadzone and Starship Godzilla.

Development

IDW Publishing first revealed plans for a new Godzilla ongoing title and shared universe with the solicitation of Godzilla: The New Heroes in November 2024. The series was formally announced alongside Godzilla: Escape the Deadzone and Starship Godzilla on February 19, 2025, as part of IGN's Fan Fest event.[1] The full synopsis was revealed later that day on the official Godzilla website.[3]

According to editor Jake Williams in a Reddit AMA, the comic will release on a monthly basis; 12 issues had already outlined by early June 2025.[4]

Notes

  1. IDW's last Godzilla ongoing series overall was Godzilla Rivals (2021-2024), but its issues were one-shots that did not share continuity.

Currently those are fully conceptualized (and pretty much fully written). We're now starting to plan out season 2 of each (pre-orders will help make sure those season 2's happen!) Godzilla is an ongoing that will be released every single month--we currently have a really strong outline for the first 12, and ideas of where we want to go from there!". Reddit.
