Godzilla: Here There Be Dragons II - Sons of Giants #5 is a comic book from IDW Publishing. It was published on November 13, 2024.[1]

Description

There’s a reason Godzilla, Rodan, Mothra, and Hedorah gathered in ancient Rome… There’s a reason the Sons of Giants have convened… There’s a reason Lewis and Clark were sent on their expedition in the first place…and it all comes down to KING GHIDORAH. Well, King Ghidorah and one final dark, terrible secret…
Witness the ancient origins of King Ghidorah, harkening back to Rome and a battle with Hercules, in the explosive finale of Sons of Giants![1]

Plot

President Thomas Jefferson concludes his tale of the kaiju war in ancient Rome to Mortimer Lane. King Ghidorah, the space monster who inspired the Hydra said to have battled Hercules, stood triumphant over his foes, seemingly free to devastate the rest of the planet. Godzilla, however, rallied the other kaiju, seizing King Ghidorah by the tail. With Mothra webbing up his left head, Rodan clawing at his center head, and Hedorah smothering his right head, the three-headed monster was immobilized, allowing Godzilla to deliver the finishing blow with his claw. The victorious kaiju departed Rome, leading its grateful leaders to found the Sons of Giants.

Mortimer is heartened to learn that Earth's monsters prevailed, but laments that it brings them no closer to finding Franklin's workshop. After a moment's thought, however, he recalls a framed painting of the Colosseum; removing it from the wall, he discovers a hidden lever and pulls it, revealing an entrance to the workshop behind a bookcase. Jefferson and Lane find it full of strange devices, studies of the kaiju, and even an alien pistol. Vice President Aaron Burr, in his true Xilien form, then confronts them at gunpoint, boasting that his race's return to Earth means their end. Lane leaps in front of Jefferson when Burr shoots; picking up the pistol on the desk, the president returns fire, hitting the alien in the chest as his next laser goes wide, starting a fire. Burr teleports away, lamenting to Jefferson's confusion that he finally lost a duel. Jefferson drags a dying Lane out of the burning house. The reporter gives him one of Jefferson's notebooks, hoping it contains the means to defeat the Xiliens.

In the Louisiana Territory, along what is now the modern-day site of the Iowa and South Dakota border, the Lewis and Clark Expedition finds Charles Floyd dead, burned almost beyond recognition. Meriwether Lewis writes to Jefferson of the Xilien forces he sighted nearby: infantry, a group of UFOs, SpaceGodzilla, Gigan, and Mechagodzilla. He believes only a miracle can save them now. Paging through Franklin's notebook, Jefferson comes upon designs for Jet Jaguar.
