Lament is a kaiju with human-level intelligence who appears in the 2025 IDW Publishing comic Godzilla.
Name
The word "lament" means an intense expression of grief and suffering. The name stems from Lament's own dialogue (more to be added).
Development
Lament was first teased in a trailer for the comic series. The kaiju was formally revealed in an article on the official Godzilla website two days prior to the release of Godzilla #1.[1]
Design
Lament possesses a humanoid build with a long tail and a bulky upper body adorned in numerous sharp spikes on their shoulders. Lament has a pointed head, small circular eyes, and human-like teeth. Concept art depicts the monster's body as primarily black with grey arms and tan skin for their upper body and head.

Lament appears at the end of the issue viewing Jacen being dragged into the sea by a swarm of giant leeches as Rumi dives in to save him over a series of computer monitors, waxing philosophically about how everyone, human and kaiju alike, are trapped in a cycle of lament and despair.
