Volga (ヴォルガ,   Voruga) is an extraterrestrial kaiju who appears in the 2025 Akita Publishing manga Godzilla Galaxy Odyssey.

Design

Volga is a large, bipedal kaiju with a long tail and covered in armor-plating. It possesses a bird-like head with a series of slit-like openings where its eyes should be. The left arm appears normal with a three-digit hand, while the right possesses a scythe-like blade. Spines in the shape of a crescent moon run down the length of the kaiju's back and tail. When in flight, Volga possesses a pair of angular, energy-based wings.

History

Godzilla Galaxy Odyssey

Volga confronting Godzilla in EP002: "Godzilla Lands"

After destroying a fleet of ships in space, the mysterious space monster Volga descended to Earth's surface. Upon arrival, the monster's energy wings disappeared as it landed and wasted no time in rampaging through a city. The space invader destroyed numerous buildings and engaged Galactic Treaty Organization (GATO) forces, which were unable to faze the kaiju.

As GATO forces struggled to contain the situation, Godzilla appeared and attacked Volga on sight, firing his atomic breath at the beast and severing its left arm. After recovering, Volga returned fire with its own energy beam, though Godzilla continued his advance seemingly unfazed and slashed into Volga's chest with his claws. Volga then used it sycthe-like claw to attack Godzilla as the fight escalated. The alien kaiju then proceeded to morph a whip-like weapon from its left arm, lashing at Godzilla and knocking the rival kaiju to the ground. However, Godzilla was able to grab Volga's whip and thrashed Volga into the ground.

Abilities

Scythe claw

The scythe-like claw on Volga's right arm is capable of tearing through the hull of a spaceship and cutting through buildings with ease.

Arm whip

After losing its left hand, Volga regenerated a whip-like weapon, using it multiple times against Godzilla and even knocking the rival kaiju to the ground.

Energy beam

Volga can emit a powerful beam of energy from its mouth, demolishing several city blocks in a single sweep.

Electromagnetic properties

Volga is unable to be captured on video or cameras.

Durability

Volga's body is covered in armor plating that can shrug off a barrage of Anti Giant Biological Missiles.

Weaknesses

Despite Volga's durability against man-made weaponry, its armor was far more susceptible to damage from Godzilla's atomic breath. In a single blast, the King of the Monsters severed one of Volga's arms, temporarily forcing the space monster into a retreat.

Trivia

  • Volga possesses striking similarities to the Xiliens' true forms as seen in Godzilla Final Wars. Both feature eyeless heads, black veins over lighter, armor-like features, and black, ridged skin beneath their armor.
  • Volga also shares multiple similarities to the Ultraman kaiju Kaiser Gyrares XIII, also designed by Hiroshi Maruyama.
