History
King Kong (1976)
Ross was the captain of the ship Petrox Explorer on which Fred Wilson was going to set out on an oil exploration expedition. Before sailing from Surabaya, Indonesia, Ross suggested postponing the trip because the weather was not favorable, but Wilson insisted on sailing immediately. A day later, when the ship was caught in a storm in the open sea, Ross suggested to Wilson that they go around the danger zone, but he still demanded that they stay on course. Ross was not as adamant about the stowaway Jack Prescott as Wilson was and did not suspect him of spying. Soon, a life raft with actress Dwan, who survived a yacht explosion, was spotted near the ship. Ross and Prescott informed her that their expedition was heading to an unexplored island, and Dwan joined them.
The ship reached the fog bank surrounding island, and Ross stopped the vessel at its edge. He remained on the Petrox Explorer and maintained radio contact with first mate Carnahan and others who sailed on a small boat and discovered the legendary Skull Island. At night, when everyone returned to the ship, Ross discussed plans for the coming days with Wilson, Prescott, and Bagley. The scouting party had discovered a human village and a possible source of oil. Prescott was sure that the island was also inhabited by a giant beast named Kong, and Ross assumed that he was right. The same night, the Skull Islanders kidnapped Dwan, and Ross and the others went to the island to rescue her.

Arriving at the village, Ross and the others began shooting into the air, scaring away the natives. Behind the giant gates in the equally giant wall they found only an empty altar and huge footprints, into one of which Wilson had fallen. Having sent a rescue party led by Carnahan to search for Dwan, Ross set up camp on the shore. In a conversation with Wilson, he expressed his guesses about Kong's size and said that it would be a good idea to use such a beast for advertising. Half a day later, Carnahan stopped communicating and Ross demanded that another group be sent to search for them, but Wilson, busy setting a trap for Kong, refused him, saying that he had no free people. Convinced of his boss's inhumanity, Ross was forced to wait, and soon Boan returned, reporting that everyone except him and Prescott had died in their encounter with Kong in the mountains. Ross was involved in completing the preparation of the trap, and the following night, Prescott and the rescued Dwan returned to the wall. Ross watched with them as Kong broke through the gate, fell into the pit, and fell asleep under the influence of chloroform. The tranquilized ape was loaded onto the tanker Susanne Onstad under the command of another captain. Ross apparently remained on the Petrox Explorer, and his further fate is unknown.
