King Ghidorah (キングギドラ,   Kingu Gidora), also known as Monster Zero (モンスターゼロ,   Monsutā Zero), is a three-headed dragon kaiju who appears in the 2019 web series Godziban, specifically its Go! Go! Godzilla-kun segments.

An extraterrestrial monster bearing an uncanny resemblance to the combined form of the Three Dorat Brothers, Monster Zero was summoned to Earth by the Xilien Lei Lei and battled against the other King Ghidorah already menacing Godzi Godzi Island. During their battle, the two Ghidorahs' gravity beams rained down and injured the other monsters. Finally, Godzilla-kun, Anguirus, and Rodan joined forces to defeat both King Ghidorahs, sending Monster Zero retreating back to outer space with Lei Lei.

Name

Officially, this monster's name is King Ghidorah, a name he shares with the combined form of the Three Dorat Brothers. The Xilien Lei Lei refers to him as Monster Zero (モンスターゼロ,   Monsutā Zero), which was the Xiliens' name for King Ghidorah in Invasion of Astro-Monster as well as Monarch's initial designation for him in Godzilla: King of the Monsters. She calls him Zero-chan (ゼロ号ちゃん,   Zerogō-chan) for short, though the English-subtitled uploads of the show simply translate this name as "Monster Zero" as well.

Design

Monster Zero's design is based on the original Showa design of the character, which is noted by Little who comments on his face-off against his Heisei-inspired counterpart as a "dream match-up for those who are into monsters".

Origins

Lei Lei, Monster Zero's controller and owner, mentions in special episode 9 that she found him on Venus.

"Bring Them to Life! Let's Play with the Three Godzilla Brothers"

After the Three Godzilla Brothers completed their film and held a film premiere to show the film to a crowd made up of their friends Bashu-Bashu, Mechagodzilla, Gorosaurus, Anguirus, Radon, Rodan, Baragon, Ebirah, Miyarabi, Gezora and Maguma, Lei Lei decided to crash the premiere and unleashed Monster Zero upon everyone. Monster Zero effortlessly ploughed through the crowd of monsters and knocked them all away simply with his sheer size. Monster Zero flew through the air and focused his gravity beams upon Godzilla-kun, Rodan and Anguirus, and then lifted and threw Godzilla-kun using two of his heads. Godzilla-kun and Anguirus attempted to regroup to fight the colossal menace but thankfully the Shobijin arrived and sang a song which summoned Mothra. Mothra used her magical dust to make the toys of the Three Godzilla Brothers used in the film grow and come to life and the three toys combined their atomic breaths to send Monster Zero and Lei Lei into retreat.

"Napping Monsters: All Monsters Attack Edition"

While travelling to Earth to find cute monsters to make into her pets, Lei Lei inspected Monster Zero inside one of the bubbles, commenting on his golden color and how she found him on Venus.

"Beat Space and the Future!"

When returning to Earth once again, Lei Lei again inspected Monster Zero inside one of the bubbles and commented on finding him on Venus as well as him being the only monster she'd successfully collected so far. After attempting to collect the Dorats only to have them turn into King Ghidorah, Lei Lei decided to make Monster Zero fight him and make the winner her pet and so she unleashed Monster Zero, much to the confusion of King Ghidorah. The Three Godzilla Brothers watched as the two King Ghidorahs battled one another in the air and engaged in a dogfight with gravity beams, striking anything unfortunate enough to be nearby such as Minilla and Little, enraging Godzilla-kun to the point of trying to fight both. Monster Zero and King Ghidorah focused their gravity beams on him, easily defeating him as they continued their fight in the air. Anguirus then arrived and attempted to fight Monster Zero by biting his necks, with the dragon dropping the smaller Anguirus from a great height as a result though Rodan arrived to save Anguirus. Monster Zero then appeared to attack Godzilla-kun, Anguirus and Rodan with gravity beams but Godzilla-kun responded by creating a storm with his atomic breath, damaging Lei Lei's UFO. After Godzilla-kun and Rodan were able to defeat King Ghidorah, Anguirus teamed with Godzilla-kun to defeat Monster Zero, with Godzilla-kun throwing the curled up Anguirus to knock him down and then repeatedly throw him by his necks. Seeing this, Lei Lei and Monster Zero finally retreated.

"Blu-Ray & DVD Trailer"

Monster Zero can be seen in this trailer in scenes advertising the later special episode "The Greatest Advance of All Monsters on Earth", allying with Mecha-King Ghidorah to fight a horde of monsters on Godzi Godzi Island. Monster Zero can also briefly be seen in a bubble being inspected by Lei Lei.

Trivia

  • The existence of two Ghidorahs possessing the Showa and Heisei designs has previously appeared in Godzilla: Rulers of Earth. While in this comic series, King Ghidorah's appearance is retconned into the 1991 design, setting up his conversion into Mecha-King Ghidorah by the Cryog, Rhizon reveals the existence of multiple Ghidorahs in issue #24, where he recalls how another Ghidorah, possessing the design of the Showa incarnation, laid waste to the Cryog homeworld.
  • Monster Zero being captured by Lei Lei on Venus is likely a reference to King Ghidorah's debut film, Ghidorah, the Three-Headed Monster (1964) in which Venus is one of the many planets destroyed by him.
