Catcher is a Great Ape who appears in the 2024 Legendary Pictures Monsterverse film Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire.

Name

Catcher is named in Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire - The Official Movie Novelization. His name is possibly derived from Kong saving him by grabbing his hand as Catcher fell off a cliff.

Development

Like all of the known minor Great Apes sans Boots, Catcher was most likely modularly constructed.[2]

Design

Like his fellow Great Ape Stone Fist, Catcher resembles a gorilla. His most distinguishing feature is the two red stripes running diagonally across his chest alongside red paint on his forehead and under his eyes. He is slightly smaller than Kong.

Personality

Catcher was a particularly ruthless minion of the Skar King. After Kong saved Catcher from falling off a cliff, Catcher repaid his kindness by grabbing a knife and attempting to kill Kong without a moment's hesitation, completely without any sense of gratitude for his savior.

History

Monsterverse

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire

Catcher ambushed Kong alongside Stone Fist and One-Eye after Suko lead him to them. After a brief struggle, Kong was able to shake the Great Apes off and even used Suko as a flail to knock Catcher and Stone Fist away as they attempted to charge him again. Following Stone Fist's demise at Kong's hands, Catcher once more leapt at Kong, only to miss and fall over a cliff. Kong caught Catcher's hand and pulled him back onto solid ground, but the Great Ape immediately grabbed a bone knife and tried to stab Kong, forcing the ape Titan to kick him off the cliff.

Abilities

Physical capabilities

Together with Stone Fist, Catcher was strong enough to hold down Kong.

Intelligence

Catcher cooperated with One-Eye, Stone Fist, and Suko to ambush Kong. He was smart enough to wield a knife, which he attempted to use on Kong while the latter wasn't expecting.

Weaknesses

Catcher managed to miss a lunge at the stationary Kong. He also lacked the wisdom to not attack Kong immediately after he saved Catcher, leading to Kong kicking him off a cliff to his doom.

Books

Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire - The Official Movie Novelization

Kong was ambushed by Catcher, Stone Fist, and One-Eye after being led to them by Suko. After a Kong-dominated battle, Catcher was driven off by Kong.

Suko later recalled his selection by the Skar King to explore the upper layer of Hollow Earth after the Titan sensed when the sinkhole leading out of the Subterranean Realm opened up. Given a red stripe, he left with One-Eye, Stone Fist, Catcher, and the Skar King to investigate. The apes discovered and destroyed Monarch Outpost One before returning to the Subterranean Realm, discovering signs of Kong's presence along the way.
