― Mike and Annie discussing how Dog and the young girl met (Skull Island)

Dog is a mammalian canid monster who appears in the Netflix Monsterverse animated series Skull Island. He is Annie’s longtime friend and companion.

Design

Dog is a stocky, brown-furred mammal who possesses numerous canine and feline characteristics. Dog's body is covered in light brown fur and exhibits tannish-yellow counershading. A thick, dark brown mane covers his neck, shoulders, and the top of his head, and descends down his back until it breaks apart into several dark brown spikes. Near his back spikes, Dog has several brown spots. His legs are thick and muscular and end in paws with four large claws and a single smaller dewclaw. Dog has cat-like ears that protrude from his mane and are pink on the inside. His face is similar to a bulldog, featuring a stubby snout, a small black nose, two large brows, slightly baggy dowels and wrinkles, a large chin, and a prominent underbite, revealing six conical teeth. His eyes are small and have blue irises that have an additional thin red streak around his pupils.

As a puppy, Dog closely resembles his adult form, even having wrinkles and extensive leg muscles, though his legs are stubbier. His mane is much shorter, and his head and ears are proportionally larger. Only Dog's canine teeth protrude from his mouth, and they are shorter and duller than his adult teeth.

Personality

Although not very friendly by nature, Dog is a mostly silent and docile animal who is tolerant of human presence. He is highly protective of Annie, becoming agitated and aggressive if she is ever threatened. Dog doesn't care much for those he dislikes, as he refused to help Charlie out of a pit, even when asked to by Annie. He is also quite stubborn when it comes to Charlie, but will listen to him should the situation require it. As a puppy, Dog was seemingly friendlier.

Origins

After Dog and Annie's fathers killed each other, Dog was left orphaned as a puppy and had bonded with Annie over their shared grief. Dog would then remain by Annie's side for the following ten years.

Skull Island

"Maritime Pilot"

After Charlie rescued Annie and brought her aboard the Once Upon a Maritime, she asked repeatedly if he or the other members of the crew had seen her dog. She later described the Kraken as bigger than her dog, surprising Cap with the comparison.

"The Last Blank Space on the Map"

As Annie fought off two of Irene's mercenaries, Dog's growl resonated through the jungle of Skull Island. Excited at having heard her companion, Annie let out a series of howls, prompting Dog to arrive at the scene. He swiftly took down the two mercenaries and threw Annie into the air, much to the latter's delight and Charlie's horror.

"What's Up, Croc?"

After Charlie and Mike had survived their encounter with a Galloping Crocodile, Dog suddenly appeared, towering over them. As Mike and Charlie argued, Dog lounged with Annie on the ground nearby, rolling over. Bored, Dog got up suddenly and walked off off.

Dog later settled on a cliff, where he slept. Charlie walked over to the canid, only for him to snort in his sleep. As Charlie and Annie conversed, Dog awakened, growling at the former. The canid stared Charlie down, convincing him to go to sleep.

The next day, Annie rode Dog as they prepared to look for food. Dog growled at Charlie again, refusing to allow him to ride on his back. The canid then walked off in his search for food.

"Breakfast Fit for a Kong"

While Dog and Annie walked through a forest, Mike was ambushed by a Giant Dodo. Before the Dodo could kill him, Dog pounced onto it and killed it. While eating the Dodo, Annie explained that Dog had grown significantly since they originally met on her island. When Charlie, Mike, and Annie were menaced by a Giant Ant after getting stuck in its chamber, Dog jumped in and scared it off. Once at the surface, Dog and Annie wandered off into the red grass fields.

"Doggone It"

Dog surprises the mercenaries, headbutting a merc but would be surrounded by other mercenaries. The mercenaries tranquilize Annie, causing Dog to leap at Irene, but before he could the Hawk Monster grabs Dog, taking him somewhere else.

Charlie finds Dog after being dropped by the Hawk Monster. Dog is skeptical but, Charlie convinces Dog to help rescue Annie. As Dog was climbing up the platform, Kong would surprise them. Charlie would find Dog staring at a cliff.

"Terms of Endearment"

The Present; Dog and Charlie would run off to find Annie. During the trip, Charlie notices an odd looking tree, which turns out to be a Nightboy colony. Charlie, Annie and Dog would fight the Nightboys. Dog notices Irene and tackles her, bit apologies to Dog about the Hawk Monster.

Flashback; Annie, in a boat alone would find Dog mourning his dead father. Annie gets scared and dashes back to the boat. Dog visits Annie in the boat while Annie was opening a package of sausages. Annie would give a sausage to Dog and howl at the moon together. A couple months later, more mercenaries would visit the island, including Irene. Dog would surprise attack them.

"You'll Never Catch a Monkey That Way"

During the planning of Kong battling the Kraken, Annie agrees and thinks Dog could be an asset, as he didn't get caught by the Kraken whilst swimming to Skull Island. Annie, Charlie and Dog would go to Kong's temple and grab the necklace. Kong, enraged, attempts to swat the trio away. Dog manages to escape as Kong follows them to the beach. Dog and Annie would be amidst the sea during the battle of Kong and the Kraken. Dog and Annie would struggle to stay afloat but, Annie would swim to shore but Dog still is in the sea. After killing the Kraken, Kong would bring Dog back to shore. Kong would throw a tentacle at the shore, which threatened to drown Dog. Annie would get separated from Dog at the end.

Swimming

According to Annie, Dog is an adept swimmer. He was capable of swimming from his native island to Skull Island and being able to track her down.

Weaknesses

Dog's speed was slowed down with two humans riding on him shown when Annie and Chairlie attempted to lure Kong out which forced Charlie to get off so Dog can outrun Kong so he can be lured to fight the Kraken.

While formidable his smaller size compared to other monsters on Skull Island allowed him be easily grabbed by more larger monsters, such as Hawk Monster easily grabbed and flown away with him.

While a adept swimmer Dog struggled to swim in strong waves and currents shown during Kong's fight with the Kraken causes massive waves that dragged him down into sea and would have drowned had Kong not saved him. When Kong tossed the Kraken's corpse after killing it, the wave generated from impact in water swept him away from Annie.
