""Diclonius"" has taken a hit to the side.llJapan Anti-Kaiju Defense ForcelDefense Force analyst ("Kaiju No. 8 (series)/Kaiju No. 8" episode 13, "Kaiju Weapon"

Diclonius (ディクロニウス,   Diikuroniusu) is a reptilian Kaiju who appears in episode 13 of the 2024 animated series Kaiju No. 8, titled "Kaiju Weapon". It surfaced in Tokyo Bay, where it was promptly dispatched by Gen Narumi before it could make landfall.

Name

While its name is never spoken in the manga, its name Diclonius (ディクロニウス,   Diikuroniusu) is revealed in the series and its character sheet.[1] Diclonius shares its name with a hadrosaur genus that is potentially a nomen dubium.

Design

Diclonius bears a striking resemblance to Godzilla, with an upright bipedal build and dorsal fins on its back, along with four digits on its hands and feet. It has rough scaly skin, with platy scales on its neck and stomach, and furrows along its sides, the base of its tail, and on its legs. Its dorsal plats are short, shaped like leaves with smooth edges. Small, needle-like teeth of uniform length line its mouth. Its eyes are small and a dark aquamarine color, resting in a ridge produced by its brows. Its body is a mint green, its claws are darkly colored, and its dorsal plates are red with blue patches.

History

Kaiju No. 8

Diclonius surfaced in Tokyo Bay off the coast of Yokohama. As it walked towards the shore through the water, it was fired upon by medium range missile launchers from within the city. Subsequently, it was fired upon by Type 87 Self-Propelled Anti-Aircraft Guns and Type 10 Tanks from Honmoku and Daikoku Piers, along with DF Mobile Cannons from Daikoku Pier and Type 16 maneuver combat vehicles from the Yokohama Bay Bridge. The attack was able to injure the kaiju and divert its course, but it then dove down and swam under the Yokohama Bay Bridge, slashing through the bridge with its dorsal plates and causing the bridge to collapse.

As Diclonius continued its advance towards Yokohama, three members of the Japan Anti-Kaiju Defense Force's First Division - Rin Shinonome, Tachibana, and an unnamed member - moved to Ōsanbashi Pier and continued to attack it, while Eiji Hasegawa remained at Daikoku Pier, with each of the four members of the First Division guiding Diclonius to a neutralization point. With Diclonius at the neutralization point just off Yokohama's shores, Captain Gen Narumi of the First Division leapt from out of a helicopter down onto Diclonius' back and stabbed into it with his GS-3305 bayonet, blowing the kaiju to bits with his rifle.

Abilities

Physical abilities

Diclonius' dorsal fins were able to slice through the Yokohama Bay Bridge, causing the bridge to subsequently collapse.

Amphibiousness

Diclonius is capable of swimming, which was how it approached Yokohama, and how it breached the blockade meant to hold it back initially.

Weaknesses

Diclonius was wounded by standard military weapons, as it was stated to have taken a hit to the side, and was shown bleeding as it swam through the Yokohama Bay Bridge. Diclonius was ultimately killed by Gen Narumi, with his bayonet capable of piercing the kaiju's hide, and his rifle ale to obliterate it completely.
