Vina Fay Wray was a Canadian-American film and television actress. She appeared in 127 films from 1923 to 1980 and is best known for her roles in horror movies, especially Ann Darrow, an aspiring actress who became the object of affection for the monstrous ape in the 1933 King Kong. She is commonly considered the first "scream queen", primarily due to her role in this film.[1] In her autobiography, she stated that she received $10,000 for this role, although filming dragged on for 10 months instead of the 10 weeks she had been initially promised.[2]

After retiring from acting, Wray made several appearances at various film festivals. In 2004, Peter Jackson asked her to play a small role in his upcoming King Kong remake.[3] Though she considered the offer, she would not live to see the film enter production. Wray passed away Sunday, August 8, 2004, in her Manhattan apartment, at the age of 96.[2]
