Mothra (モスラ Mosura) and her daughter Baby Mothra (ベビーモスラ Bebī Mosura) are giant divine moth kaiju who appear in the 1997 television series Godzilla Island. They star in the sixth and 15th story arcs, respectively.
Name

The name "Mothra" is the suffixation of "-ra" (a common last syllable in kaiju names) to "moth." Since the Japanese language does not have dental fricatives, it is approximated Mosura in Japanese.
In Godzilla Island, the imago Mothra is often called Mother Mothra (親モスラ Oya Mosura, lit. "Parent Mothra"), due to her being the mother of Little Mothra and Baby Mothra.
Design
Mother Mothra reuses the design of the 1992 imago Mothra through a modified version of the 1992 Bandai Mothra from The Godzilla Collection with new wings. Baby Mothra is similarly portrayed by a 1996 Bandai action figure of Mothra Leo larva, sporting a darker brown coloration compared to the original toy's light tan.
Personality
Mother Mothra is a benevolent inhabitant of Godzilla Island who is on good terms with the other monsters and is particularly devoted to her son Mothra Leo, who she gives advice to when she realizes she is old and is nearing the end of her lifespan. She has a particular rivalry with the Xilien pawn Battra dating back a long time and they focused on each other during an aerial battle.
Baby Mothra is initially a hostile monster working alongside the Xiliens as a result of imprinting on their pawn Battra and mistaking him for her parent, leading her to web all the monsters on the island as well as the G-Guard base. However, when she realizes she was tricked, she immediately joins forces with Godzilla and her brother Mothra Leo in fighting off Battra and his allies Megalon and Destoroyah. After this, Baby Mothra is infrequently seen and never takes part in any battles though does associate with the other inhabitants of the island, implying she was able to make amends with them.
Origins
Mother Mothra and Baby Mothra are residents of Godzilla Island who live in relative harmony with the other monsters on the island, being particularly close to their relative Mothra Leo. It is explained in flashbacks that Mother Mothra has lived on the island even before Beisuke Jinguji was made Commander, a time in which Battra also lived on the island and often battled Mother Mothra, convincing her to hide one of her eggs from him at the base of Mt. Gorath.

Heisei era
Godzilla Island
The Trial of Godzilla
Having reported Battra and Megalon to be approaching Godzilla Island during Godzilla's trial, G-Guard Commander Beisuke Jinguji ordered Mothra and Rodan to stop the invading monsters with Mechagodzilla and Moguera acting as backup. Mothra grazed Battra and was assisted by both Mechagodzilla and Torema in the Panna-Torte who both fired their respective attacks at the evil moth. After Zagreth realized that Torema was assisting the Godzilla Island monsters and mechs, she ordered Megalon and Battra to retreat which ended the battle. However, Mothra was forced to go back to Monster Hospital as a result of her injuries.
Junior Kidnapped
Mother Mothra was seen alongside the other inhabitants of Godzilla Island, including her son Little Mothra, during a period of peace on the island. After Godzilla and G-Guard failed to rescue a kidnapped Junior from the Xiliens, Mother Mothra appeared in front of Godzilla and Rodan and told them about a plan to rescue Junior. She flew towards the Infrared Auto-Blaster installed near Junior's base and emitted pollen from her wings, disrupting its sensors and causing it to almost hit Megalon and cause damage to the Vabaruda. However, Zagreth summoned Destoroyah who easily defeated his enemies and knocked Mothra down when she and Moguera tried to intervene as Godzilla was wrestling with the monster. Godzilla finally defeated Destoroyah by kicking him in front of the damaged Auto-Blaster which fired on him and caused a large explosion.
Gigan
After Gigan struck Godzilla during a duel following a long stare-down and caused him to fall to the ground, Mother Mothra appeared and emitted pollen at the cyborg, disorienting him. She followed Rodan as he carried Godzilla to the hot spring on the island. Godzilla mentioned Mothra and Rodan to King Caesar while relaxing in the hot spring, grateful for their interference in the fight. As Godzilla and Gigan commenced their second duel, Mother Mothra went to King Caesar's Monster Temple along with the other monsters on the island to voice their concerns about the duel to King Caesar who insisted that they should not interfere in a one-on-one fight and that Godzilla will win. Mother Mothra later appeared with the other monsters to celebrate Godzilla's victory after Godzilla won his second duel with Gigan.
Mothra
Mother Mothra, having grown old, stayed inside her cave and imparted lessons of life to her son Little Mothra such as "shape your own destiny" and "don't run away from a challenge". However, a meteor landed on Godzilla Island as she was telling her son these lessons, the meteor in question destroying the underground wastewater treatment plant but missing the nearby chemical plant. After a bomb planted by Zagreth blew up the chemical plant and released a cloud of toxic smoke, which combined with the fumes emitted by the toxic smoke and the resulting acid rain to severely hurt every monster on the island except Mother Mothra and Little Mothra. Hedorah formed after absorbing more of the toxic smoke, even after Torema tricked Zagreth into emitting neutralizer from the Vabaruda and removing the smog. As all the other monsters were left powerless due to the smoke, Mother Mothra and Little Mothra were the only monsters left on the island still able to fight. Mother Mothra left her cave to fight Hedorah, using her antennae lasers against him but was knocked out of the sky by the smog monster's eye lasers. As Hedorah approached her, Godzilla tried to distract the smog monster with atomic breath but Hedorah easily defeated the still wounded Godzilla with eye lasers and continued to approach Mother Mothra and Little Mothra. As Hedorah chased Little Mothra, Mother Mothra got back up and grabbed Hedorah, carrying him to the nearby volcano Mt. Gorath. Mothra successfully dropped Hedorah into the crater but was killed in the following eruption. While Hedorah re-emerged from the crater after absorbing sulfur oxide and growing stronger, Mother Mothra's sacrifice was not in vain as Little Mothra would later evolve into Mothra Leo and help Godzilla kill Hedorah once and for all. Mother Mothra's ghost appeared over Mt. Gorath and acknowledged Mothra Leo, fading away shortly after.
Mysteries of Godzilla Island
Mother Mothra was seen in a flashback as Torema and Lucas swapped questions: when discussing the firepower of the Panna-Torte, a flashback of Torema shooting at Battra while battling Mothra was seen. Lucas also mentioned Mt. Gorath, where Mother Mothra died, and Mothra's Cave as points of interest.
Bonus
Mothra Leo was seen flying around the volcano Mt. Gorath, exactly one year after the death of his mother. Flashbacks of Mother Mothra's death from the volcano were seen as Beisuke Jinguji and Lucas discussed Mothra Leo's grief.
Second Generation Mothra
After the eruption of Mt. Gorath, both Mothra Leo and Misato Jinguji, the daughter of Beisuke Jinguji, visited the volcano. Piloting Medical Jet Jaguar, Misato discovered a large egg at the base of the volcano which had been uncovered due to the eruption. After hearing that the egg was still alive, Beisuke Jinguji ordered that the egg be picked up and transported to the Monster Hospital, which was accomplished by Medical Jet Jaguar. Beisuke explained to Misato that when he first arrived on the island, a time when Battra was still a resident, the monsters frequently battled each other and so Mother Mothra hid one of her eggs at the base of Mt. Gorath to protect it from him. Misato later decided to relocate the egg to Mothra's Cave where Mothra Leo was living and successfully did so, with Mothra Leo quickly arriving to protect the egg. Misato then returned in Medical Jet Jaguar once again to play Mothra's Song in an attempt to help it hatch and it began to respond with flashes of light. However, Megalon and Destoroyah soon arrived and kidnapped the egg despite the best efforts of Mothra Leo, Mechagodzilla, Moguera, Godzilla and Medical Jet Jaguar. After transporting the egg to Matango Island, Battra began to incubate the egg himself and the egg soon hatched. Baby Mothra imprinted on Battra, mistaking him for her parent.
Misato flew to Matango Island and told Baby Mothra to return to Godzilla Island, and though it agreed to do so, it promptly attacked Medical Jet Jaguar with silk and escaped while at the Monster Hospital. She then proceeded to attack Gorosaurus, King Caesar, Rodan, Baragon, and Anguirus, webbing them all up using her silk. Baby Mothra then chased Junior but was interrupted by Godzilla, who fired atomic breath at her after she attacked him with silk, though Mothra Leo arrived and defended his sister, leading to a fight between Godzilla and Mothra Leo. Battra then arrived and began to speak with Baby Mothra before carrying her to the Vabaruda with Misato piloting the Tart Coupe in pursuit, though they turned around back to the G-Guard base so that they could attack the G-Guard base while Misato and Randeth were fighting. However, Mothra Leo appeared and attacked Battra with antennae lasers, forcing him to drop Baby Mothra and leading to them battling in the air. Battra soon knocked Mothra Leo out of the sky with Prism Beams. Battra then attacked both siblings with Prism Beams to Baby Mothra's shock after Randeth insisted that he was allowed to as Baby Mothra had played her part in their plans. Luckily, Godzilla appeared and attacked Battra with atomic breath. While Baby Mothra and Mothra Leo watched Godzilla and Battra fight, Misato flew towards Baby Mothra in the Tart Coupe and told her to think back to when she was in her egg and reminded her of "Mothra's Song". Having remembered, Baby Mothra then assisted Godzilla by attacking Battra with a Petite Railgun and webbing him up in silk. After Misato and Godzilla then defeated Megalon and Destoroyah, Baby Mothra webbed them up as well. They were then knocked apart by Godzilla and both Mothras beam attacks and then returned to the Vabaruda. Baby Mothra and Mothra Leo then relaxed together in Mothra's Cave along with Misato and Nao Koda.
Anguirus
Baby Mothra was one of the many monsters who went to investigate a strange cactus that suddenly appeared on the island. Unbeknownst to them, it was actually a Xilien pawn called Gororin.
SpaceGodzilla's Spirit Again
An image of Baby Mothra appeared on Misato's computer as she checked to see who had an alibi for the incident which led to Gorosaurus being put in critical condition.
The Secret of G Island
Baby Mothra was one of the monster residents of Godzilla Island who suffered as a result of a Xilien plot to remove the breathable air from Godzilla Island, with her brother Mothra Leo suffering similarly.
Abilities
Flight
Being an imago, Mother Mothra is naturally capable of flight and uses this to her advantage on occasions such as battling the airborne Battra and Megalon in the skies, flying to Matango Island to help rescue Junior and carrying Hedorah to Mt. Gorath so she could drop him in the volcano.
Physical capabilities
Mother Mothra briefly grazed Battra while the two were battling in the sky. Mother Mother also had the strength to pick up and carry Hedorah all the way to Mt. Gorath, successfully dropping the smog monster into the volcano.
Pollen
Mother Mothra is capable of emitting a pollen from her wings which interfered with the Infrared Auto-Blaster's sensors and caused it to fire wildly. It also disoriented Gigan.
This attack appears to be based on the scales emitted by the the Mothra that appeared in Godzilla vs. Mothra but is a whitish color rather than a yellowish color.
Antennae lasers
Mother Mothra is capable of firing purple lasers out of her antennae which had no noticeable effect on Hedorah.
Reproduction
Mother Mothra is naturally capable of asexual reproduction, having laid two eggs which hatched into the brother and sister Mothra Leo and Baby Mothra respectively.
Egg control
Mother Mothra is apparently capable of controlling the development of her unhatched larvae, with Beisuke Jinguji mentioning that she deliberately put one of them in suspended animation when she hid its egg from Battra.
Silk
Baby Mothra naturally possesses the ability to shoot silk and used this ability to web up Medical Jet Jaguar, Gorosaurus, King Caesar, Rodan, Baragon and Anguirus while she believed Battra was her parent. She then used this ability against Battra and his allies Megalon and Destoroyah while assisting Godzilla, defeating them for good with it.
Petite Railgun
Baby Mothra possesses a similar attack to Mothra Leo's larva form in Rebirth of Mothra and used this attack against Battra.
Weaknesses
Mother Mothra was injured by her battle with Battra and Megalon and had to go to the Monster Hospital as a result. A flashback in the 15th story arc also shows Mother Mothra being knocked out of the sky by Battra's Prism Beams during a battle between them.
Hedorah's eye lasers were capable of knocking Mother Mothra out of the sky. Mother Mothra was finally killed when the volcano Mt. Gorath erupted after she dropped Hedorah into the crater.
Like the other inhabitants of Godzilla Island, Baby Mothra requires oxygen to breath and so was harmed as a result of the Xiliens sucking out the breathable air from Godzilla Island.
