  • 27 January: The Legion Plant in Sendai is close to launching its pod into space. An evacuation of the city is conducted by the JSDF using helicopters, but Mother Legion arrives and menaces the final helicopter to leave the city, carrying Asagi Kusanagi. Fortunately, Gamera arrives and distracts Legion for long enough for the helicopter to escape, but is critically injured in the battle. With no time to lose, Gamera manages to throw himself in front of the Legion Plant, preventing it from launching the pod, but it instead levels Sendai in a massive explosion, leaving Gamera seemingly dead. (Gamera 2: Attack of Legion)
  • An ancient pollution eating monster named Dagahra emerges. Mothra Leo arives to do battle with the sea monster, but is defeated in the first conflict. Thankfully, Leo is empowered by an ancient treasure and transforms into Rainbow Mothra. In his new form, Leo transforms into Aqua Mothra and defeats Dagahra once and for all. (Rebirth of Mothra 2)
  • Rodan attacks New York City. (Kai-Sei Era)
