In the real world

August

  • The Spanish Armada, which is sent to attack England, is repelled by the English Navy, receiving heavy losses. Sir Francis Drake was among the leaders of the British forces that opposed the Spanish Armada.

In fiction

  • Professor Elmer Mason and his men travel with Godzilla to the year 1588 in anticipation of the clash between the English Navy and the Spanish Armada. Mason looses Godzilla on the Spanish Armada, and the King of the Monsters destroys many of the ships while Mason and his men steal treasure from the sinking galleons in submarines. Meanwhile, Burton Helzer and Dr. Marina Meltev are sent by G-Force to repel any raids on England, and set out with Sir Francis Drake to survey claims of a monster attacking the Spanish Armada. When this is confirmed, Drake requests that Godzilla's attack be covered up, because no one would believe that a sea monster was responsible for the armada's defeat. Following this, Helzer and Meltev teleport to the present with Dixon, one of Mason's men who the two apprehended. (Dark Horse's Godzilla #9-10)
