  • Gentetsu Nishiyama read the writings of the French prophet Nostradamus, who foretold great changes for Japan that would start with foreign ships arriving on the country's shores, and attempted to tell others. Gentetsu and his family suffered greatly for this, with his students dismissing his claims as heretical and revolting, leading to him being executed and his family being mistreated following his teachings; however, Gentetsu's wife kept his copy of Nostradamus' book, and the family kept to his predictions. U.S. Commodore Perry's ships arrived on the Japanese coasts, much to Gentetsu's predictions. (Prophecies of Nostradamus)
