Is the 1954 Godzilla Film Canon to the Following Mangas?

5
Legendary Godzilla 95 (talkcontribs)

Hi, I hope that you're safe and happy!

I know that you know some Godzilla mangas, and I have a minor question for you related to some of them, if you don't mind. Do you know of Godzilla manga adaptations where the 1954 Godzilla film is generally considered canon to them? I'm mostly interested in knowing if that film is canon to the following Godzilla mangas:

• SD Godzilla World

• Shogakukan's Heisei Godzilla Movies Adaptations

• Kodansha's Godzilla, King of the Monsters (1992)

• The Godzilla Comic

Please, I would appreciate any help.

Legendary Godzilla 95 (talkcontribs)

Please, bro. I need some help, and I don't think that my question is that hard to answer.

MrPenguin (talkcontribs)

i think godzilla 1954 is canon for the godzilla comic and kodanshas king of the monsters, but i haven't read them yet.

still crazy how no one was able to help

Remember our talk regarding how many tongues Lahamu possesses?

I started a discussion over the matter. I have posted images of Lahamu with numbers obviously meant to dictate what I’m seeing in the images. I thought you should at least see what I see before we discuss how to ultimately address it on the page itself.

Shin Godzilla dorsal and tail beam sound effect

Summary by Les

Edit was reverted based on the admission that it was not verified.

JohnGojira (talkcontribs)

I am very sorry for how unprofessional my edit came across. I will admit, communication is not my strong suit. Now, I was wanting to make sure, my edit about Shin Godzilla's dorsal and tail beams was reverted because it indeed was not the Spacium Beam sound effect or because of the lack of certainty I conveyed the description?

Les (talkcontribs)

I wasn't commenting on its accuracy; it could be true, I haven't checked. But that should be something you do before you publish it.

I see👍 Thank you!

Ultraman rides a dragon cuz yes (talkcontribs)

Hey Les, once again I have a question to ask about Golden Sachi Monster King Rampus (金鯱怪獣キングランパス) which I am kind of working on on my personal Sandbox (User:Ultraman rides a dragon cuz yes/Sandbox/Deranged Ramblings).

So as you can see in the link, concept art for one of the characters in that film, however, considering that the 2 of the concept pieces depict exposed robot breasts, I wonder if this would be ok for upload if I ever get to uploading concept art.

As an assistant, McLeod will be left off of Supernova's Staff section.

Les (talkcontribs)

I'm unsure what this is in response to, her involvement in the movie was never a question. My points were that she's an assistant so she shouldn't be listed on the page, and the video you sourced for Zeus being the working title never actually connects that title to the movie.

MechaniKongZilla (talkcontribs)

oh my god you right, I'm feeling so dumb now, I need to read your notes with more attention, apologies.

I guess I wasn't sure of who should and should not be mentioned, I don't edit Staff much

Vector Attack Craft Super X

Summary by Les

Proposed connection is dubious, will not be added to pages.

Nelspeedracer (talkcontribs)

The Trivia of it on Elfen Lied Wiki mention it had some resemblance to the Super X obviously they can't make it 100% too close looking to the Super X without Toho suing them into the ground given how protective their I.Ps so of course they have a different shape to get around legal barriers but enough to look like the Super X for some to get the reference since it has the lights of the front and has similar shape in someshots as I have the Manga so let me get more shots real quick that look more closer to it a bit so let me get them real quick.

https://elfen-lied.fandom.com/wiki/Vector_Attack_Craft#Trivia

Les (talkcontribs)

I don't know why you're putting such weight in a subjective observation. It doesn't even claim that it was a reference, just that it's "somewhat" similar, perhaps by coincidence. It sounds like you've just decided it's true and are working backwards to come up with reasons to justify it.

The only things I see them having in common are extremely nonspecific, like being vaguely spheroid, flying, and having headlights. There are far more things that are different about them. The Vector ship seems to be rounded all the way around whereas the Super X tapers on the top and in the back; its surface looks like a beetle's shell instead of smooth metal plating; it has at least five prominent lights on the front in contrast to the Super X's one; it appears to be biomechanical, as guts spill out of it when it's destroyed, which has nothing to do with Super X; and it appears to possess, or maybe project holograms of, giant humanoid arms, which also has nothing to do with Super X.

Unless you can prove that the mangaka had Super X in mind, I do not see any case for it.

Astounding Beyond Belief (talkcontribs)

Agreed. Fan wikis are infamous for making flimsy "this sort of looks like that" statements; we try to maintain a higher standard here.

Nelspeedracer (talkcontribs)

Could we at least show some acknowledgment to it than just denying and erasing it's existence because someone else will likely do again

Les (talkcontribs)

You haven't sufficiently justified why we should. If some other wiki said that a bowl of spaghetti looks like Godzilla I wouldn't go adding that just to stop somebody else from doing it; that's silly. And I can tell you that I have never heard of this ship in my life. On the off chance that anyone else finds out about it and tries to add it, it's only one button to revert.

Nelspeedracer (talkcontribs)

I decided shown it to people I know who are Godzilla fans to give secondary opinions to see if it was intentionally or not and they lean more towards yes the seemly thinking reference is intentional but the different shape and extra lights is done so Toho wouldn't sue the Manga given how protective with their I.Ps here so the slightly different shape and extra lights are likely just legal loopholes. So I just modified it to say it has a similar appearance with a different shape here.

Also arms aren't holograms they're Vectors the species Diclonius from Elfen Lied use that are invisible telekinetic arms as weapons and the craft can artificially use them here that was made from Diclonius remains hence the organic part.

Even if it was coincidental there should be at least some sort of mention here than just erasing all acknowledgement here.

Page is promoted.

GodOfOdo (talkcontribs)

Hi Les, I have made a page on a song about Godzilla that was in a documentary I recall watching on Netflix as a kid ("Godzilla Rap") and am hopefully coming up on the page being done or at least in a passable state. However, I did have some trouble making out some lyrics in it, and there does not appear to be any copy of the lyrics online which complicates matters more since I had to rely on listening to it by ear. I was wondering if you or maybe @Astounding Beyond Belief could listen to the song and make any corrections or add anything else I might have missed to the lyrics? I did add a video at the bottom of the page with it. If neither of you can or have bigger fish to fry right now, I understand and won't press it further. Thanks in advance. The International GvMGII Trailer Title Card

8
Summary by Ani Mate, the One-Headed Human

The English GvMGII title card seen in the international trailer has been included in the screenshots section.

The TRoG logo was updated.

Ani Mate, the One-Headed Human (talkcontribs)

Hello again, Les.

With the new 4K box set including the export trailer for GvMGII, I was wondering if I could include an image of the title card onto the Screenshots section for the film’s gallery, like with IOAM’s international trailer title. The font for the production credits are the same as the Hindi-sourced international visuals so I’m inclined to believe that the superimposed title seen in the trailer would’ve been the same one used in the full international version. It may be the closet we get to seeing that title card.

By the way, I have a better looking English title for TRoG sourced from that film’s international trailer, it’s been recoloured to match the international posters and I was just wondering if I could update the navigation png?

Ani Mate, the One-Headed Human (talkcontribs)

Hello again. It’s almost been a week now and there’s no reply, that isn’t anything major it’s just that I’m a little uncertain on what to do with the trailer title and TRoG logo.

If I don’t get anything by Sunday-Monday then I hope you don’t mind me adding them, they're nothing major as The Return of Godzilla’s title is just a higher quality version of the one I previously did thanks to the remastered international trailer. I’m intending to use its first time the international title card appears in the GvMGII trailer; the superimposed English text and the shot of Mechagodzilla in the background look close to both the film’s Japanese title card and presumably the international version.

I really hope this hasn’t been a bother.

Les (talkcontribs)

My apologies for the delay. I see no problem with putting the GvMG2 title in the gallery. I might personally recommend, though, that it go under its own heading for trailer(s). I don't think we should assume or claim that it is representative of the movie itself.

Regarding TRoG, I'd like to see a comparison between the logo we have and the one you propose before I make a decision. Thank you!

Ani Mate, the One-Headed Human (talkcontribs)

Sorry for the late reply, I was dealing with some personal matters. That sounds great! I don’t mind making a trailer section in the gallery, if it hasn’t already been made yet, with the amount of text differences you’d be able to make a full comparison between the Japanese and English versions

As for TRoG’s logo, there was an interesting little thing I discovered in the meantime. It started out as isolating the text for fun from the export trailer before I decided it could potentially be good enough for the site. Then I noticed that there’s a unique ‘dot’ in the middle of the ‘I’ in ‘GODZILLA’. Looking back at a few of the posters, it seems this very same dot appears on the international pamphlet, though the quality makes it a bit difficult to notice. Aside from that, it appears similar, if not identical, to all the other Toho-used logos. I decided to make a bunch of versions, each with a ‘dot’ and ‘no dot’ variant:

White

”Film Red” - based on the shade of red used for the international version of the film.

”Poster Red” - based on the shade of red used for the international poster.

“Pamphlet Red” - based on the shade of red used for the international pamphlet (pretty close to the poster red but slightly different).

Personally, film and poster red looks good with no dot while pamphlet red looks good with the dot.

Sorry for this lengthy response, I just found it interesting. Let me know which version you’d like to see and how you would like me to upload it.

The Boy Who Cried Godzilla (talkcontribs)

Go ahead :)

Ani Mate, the One-Headed Human (talkcontribs)

Thank you, TBWCG. It’s nice to speak with you again after such a long time. This newer version was definitely something I was proud of. I’ve still got the main file so I can just upload it directly onto the navigation one and the “temporary file” can be deleted.

Ani Mate, the One-Headed Human (talkcontribs)

Update: After checking out a VHS-quality version of TRoG’s international credits, it turns out the dot on the “I” can be seen as the title card gets closer to the screen. So I suppose it’s always been present, low-quality images and video have just made it more difficult to see.

Hey Les!

I was wondering, since you made the change to distinguish Matango Island from the central location of Matango, would you consider this sandbox ready to promote? Sandbox:Unnamed South Pacific island
