Astounding Beyond Belief is a Wikizilla bureaucrat, and also the person writing this, so I feel weird using the third person. After making a few random edits to the site during its time on Wikia, I formally joined the site in December 2016 and rose through the ranks at terrifying speeds.

Who will be a major antagonist in the next Monsterverse film?

In the tradition of Toho Kingdom's oddsmaking for the Pipeworks Godzilla trilogy, here's my analysis of prospective Godzilla x Kong: Supernova villains. Percentages add up to well over 100% to account for scenarios with multiple villains.

The Kaiju The Odds The Case

Original monster(s)
75%
A majority (3/5) of the Monsterverse films have featured original kaiju as the primary antagonists. Legendary has only licensed four Toho kaiju besides Godzilla to appear in the franchise—all the other members of the Big Five. Godzilla: King of the Monsters, which featured three of those four, also had a series-worst box office performance, and even getting previously-licensed monsters to return seems to be tricky, as Mothra was nearly replaced by "Phosphera" in Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. Legendary is clearly trying to build up a roster of original monsters (plus Kong) that it can use in stories without having to pay licensing fees. It is also possible that the villains in this film will be some combination of existing monsters and original ones. Godzilla and Kong now have a long list of allies, so a single antagonist would have to be ludicrously powerful to credibly oppose them.
SpaceGodzilla 0.jpg

SpaceGodzilla
55%
The current favorite among the Toho monsters, the case for SpaceGodzilla is rooted in the Godzilla x Kong: Supernova title, as he was energized by exposure to supernovas in his debut film; the orange-and-yellow glow around said title in the teaser, reflecting the coloration of his Corona Beam; and the binary code on a computer screen in the teaser, which loops the text "Godzilla Kong watch this space", allowing for an alternate reading of "Kong watch this spaceGodzilla." Crystalline pyramids can also be spotted on a video monitor, although the text below them indicates these are the tacky replacements for the Great Pyramids, funded by investors from Las Vegas.

The trouble is, SpaceGodzilla's commercial prospects are dismal. His sole film saw little theatrical play outside of Japan and is commonly considered one of the worst entries in the series. Would Legendary really shell out the cash for such a villain, especially after featuring two "evil Godzillas" (Mechagodzilla and Shimo) in the last two films?

ZF - Showa Gigan (cropped).png

Gigan
35%
The argument for Gigan is basically the inverse of SpaceGodzilla's. The teaser offers scant evidence that he'll be in Supernova; to me, the space in the "R" in the title only resembles his visor if I take off my glasses. However, Gigan is likely the most popular Toho space kaiju who has yet to appear in the Monsterverse. He’s starred in three films, two of them released widely, and has a highly memorable design and personality. (We've also yet to see a proper cyborg in the Monsterverse.) Though not especially powerful, he has several established allies who could threaten Earth alongside him (indeed, he teamed with half of the kaiju on this list in IDW's 2012 Godzilla comic).
Showa Hedorah Perfect Stage.png

Hedorah
20%
Another popular Showa space monster, Hedorah is a serious powerhouse who could carry a film on its own, and an anti-pollution metaphor would be right at home in the Monsterverse. It would also be a nice tip of the cap to immortal Monsterverse producer Yoshimitsu Banno. But it's hard to see how the Smog Monster would tie in with Supernova's title.
GVM - Megalon On the Battlefield.jpg

Megalon
10%
Gigan's famed ally, Megalon and his Seatopian worshipers would be natural fits for Hollow Earth. The beetle also has decent name recognition thanks to the wide distribution of his film and countless video game appearances. But with space clearly the focus of this film, it seems less likely that we'll spend a ton of time underground again.
Godzilla.jp - Keizer Ghidorah.jpg

Keizer Ghidorah
5%
King Ghidorah might be dead as a doornail, but there's nothing stopping Legendary from bringing in Gigan's most recent cinematic ally... apart from his low popularity and charges of repetition should a Ghidorah play the antagonist for what would effectively be a third film.
Mecha-King Ghidorah full body.jpeg

Mecha-King Ghidorah
2%
I could only see the long-rumored Mecha-King Ghidorah reaching the Monsterverse if the "Tiamat" story in Monsterverse Declassified, with its talk of resurrecting and enhancing slain Titans, turns out to be crucial to Supernova's plot. Even then, there's the repetition problem.
Krystalak 03.jpg

Krystalak
<0.1%
SpaceGodzilla's spawn in Godzilla: Unleashed, Krystalak is almost certainly too obscure—and his rights too convoluted—to have any chance of starring in a Hollywood blockbuster. I'd put his odds of appearing as an Easter egg in the low single digits, at least.
