Godzilla Kaiju Wars VR is a virtual reality-first person shooter arcade game developed and published by Raw Thrills that was previewed at IAAPA 2023 ahead of its 2024 release, which initially debuted with two stages before an update added additional chapters.
Gameplay
The game has up to 2 players wear virtual reality headsets to play and interact with the software. The game itself consists of six stages (five main stages with an unlockable final battle) in which the players face off against various monsters, robots, and Godzilla himself on a war machine using mounted machine guns, gunning down smaller monsters while having to counter huge strikes from the larger ones in timed "shoot the target" moments.
Manda Mayhem
The player helicopters take a path along the city's waterways to focus on battling Manda and their sea serpent minions, culminating in a close encounter with Godzilla. The stage ends with a teaser to encourage players to try the other stage with Megaguirus attacking Godzilla (earlier versions had her attacking the player).
Megaguirus Invasion
Descending down from the city heights past defense force zeppelins, the helicopters battle Megaguirus and the Meganula swarm in the skies over Tokyo, with the helicopters making their way up along Tokyo Tower to blast swarms of Meganula and sea serpents. A close encounter with Godzilla includes a flight along the edges of his dorsal plates. The stage ends with Manda attacking Godzilla (earlier versions had them attacking the player).
River Assault
The helicopters begin battling the sea serpents and Meganula over the river, but Manda drives players away from the riverfront and climbs up a building to follow their ascent. Driving Manda away, the helicopters dive back down to battle more Meganula and robots, which are pushed away by an approaching bullet train and Godzilla. After a close encounter with Godzilla, the stage ends with Gigan attacking Godzilla.
Tokyo Onslaught
The helicopters put their focus on battling the giant robot army, being given extra guns for the task. Megaguirus and the sea serpents then start attacking the helicopter, chasing them across a bridge before a massive explosion occurs heralding Godzilla emerging from beneath the wreckage. The helicopters are then guided towards Kiryu, docking inside to allow players to battle Godzilla and Megaguirus on a level playing field and taking control of the giant robot's shoulder pack. The battle is ultimately interrupted by Gigan, ending the stage.
Gigan Attacks
Starting on the deck of a battleship, the helicopters find the ship crumbling beneath them as Gigan tears it apart with his sickles while the Xilien mothership looms above. Battling Xilien Fighters through the streets and dodging Gigan's tail and saws, the helicopters defend another battleship from giant robots, only for Godzilla to emerge and begin firing. A stray shot of Gigan's Hooking Anchors bring us towards him with players having to counter his strikes and beam before ending the level.
Final Battle
The final battle takes the form of a boss rush against Manda, Gigan and Megaguirus before battling Godzilla at a power plant and having to stop an unstable energy core from destroying the city. The blowback from the energy core is enough to knock Godzilla backwards into the water, saving the city.
