Akiko Yamato (大和 秋子 Yamato Akiko) is the mother of series protagonist Takeshi Yamato, and serves as a supporting character in the 1982-1983 animated series Warrior of Love Rainbowman. She owns and operates a café called Kai Coffee.

"A Destined Encounter"
After her son Takeshi Yamato won the National High School Wrestling Championship, he, her daughter Jun, and their friends Yoko Omiya, Gota, and Shosuke Yamada celebrated at Kai coffee. The Yamadas' parents even came with a basket of fruit to congratulate Takeshi. She had Takeshi help her serve dinner, and afterwards saw him and Yoko out as they went to visit her father. That night, Takeshi was mugged and found in a ditch. After he had been bandaged up and recovered enough, Akiko shared dinner with him, where he expressed a desire to fight professionally to gain wealth and fame. Horrified by this, Akiko slapped him across the face, but was instantly regretful and apologized for her attack. Takeshi revealed that he hoped that if he became famous enough, his father would return. Thinking about her husband made Akiko begin to cry, and Takeshi went out for a run. He later traveled to India, leaving everyone behind.
"Go! Warrior of Love"
Akiko sat knitting one night, when Jun got out of bed to ask about Takeshi's whereabouts. Akiko reminded her that he was far away, which prompted her daughter to call out to him, startling Akiko, who sent her back to bed. She continued her knitting, worrying about her son.
"Fight! Rainbow Seven"
Akiko was working in her coffee house as usual when someone she assumed to be a customer entered. Looking up, she saw that it was in fact her formerly missing son Takeshi, and the shock of seeing him again caused her to drop an empty glass. The two enjoy some time talking to one another before she suggests that he visit Dr. Omiya at the laboratory.
